The mysterious vortices in this SEM image are two-dimensional MoS2 crystals synthesized by low-pressure chemical vapor deposition. This could be a nano-scale demonstration of Vincent van Gogh's far-sighted vision. (This image has been presented as the Finalist at Science as Art, 2019 MRS Fall Meeting, Boston)
